Welcome!
Dear 8th grade Parents and Guardians,
My name is Terri Myers, and I will be teaching Reading/Language Arts to your son or daughter. 8th grade is an exciting, challenging year in which students will grow as individuals, learners, readers and writers. I eagerly anticipate this school year as an opportunity to teach and learn from your child. I also look forward to communicating with you about the needs and successes of your child.
The 8th grade Reading/Language Arts curriculum builds on communication skills necessary to function as listener, reader, and writer in our global community. 8th grade Language Arts develops the student’s ability to read increasingly difficult literature of all genres, to write more effective and complex sentences, paragraphs and essays, to apply the principles of grammar, usage and mechanics, and to speak in a variety of formal and informal situations. This course will integrate and hone researching, vocabulary, spelling and study skills with the goal of creating better readers and writers.
As readers and writers, our 8th grade Language Arts class will develop into a community. As well as being focused and productive, our community will hold the highest respect for all of its members. As parents, you play an integral role in our 8th grade community. I extend to you my respect and my desire for positive communication throughout the year.
To measure and assess your student’s growth and skill as a reader and writer, an electronic portfolio of your student's writing will be maintained. The 8th grade community will benefit from sharing and collecting our writing experiences. You will also be able to view the brilliant, humorous, and insightful pieces your son or daughter will create this year.
I sincerely look forward to this school year and getting to know each of you and your student. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to help this 8th grade class prepare for high school.
The post you are reading on this blog provides an opportunity to increase school to home communication. Please feel free to call, e-mail or stop by to see me.
Sincerely,
Terri Myers

Unit 5:
"On Your Mark, Get Ready, Set ,Go!"
Reading Unit Goals:
As students prepare for high school, they need to develop an acute understanding of the research process. This unit will allow students to connect the importance of education and the need for strong literacy skills. Through a variety of tasks and activities, I will guide students to a deeper understanding of the research process.
Language Arts Unit Goals

As the CRCT apporaches students must be able to analyze and demonstrate knowledge of Sentence Structures, Phrases, Clauses, and Pronoun Cases. MySkills Tutor and Georgia OAS are just a couple of remediation instruments that will be used.
